SD Comics is the webcomic handle of some dude named Stephen (pronounced steven, NOT stefan).
He is many things: artist, gamer, vtuber, nerd, introvert, awkward, leftist, hopeless romantic, wannabe wizard, tired. But more importantly, he's trying his best to make himself and others smile and laugh.
Stephen spent the bulk of his youth obsessed with video games, cartoons, and anime, as well as drawing whatever his strange little mind needed to be put to paper. In high school especially, he found a strong pull to writing parody comics based on his favorite games. As his freshman year of college came to a close, Stephen sought to finally share his wacky jokes and ideas with the world. On May 25th 2015, he made his first social media account and began posting miscellaneous parody comics, under the handle SD Comics. He would draw approximately 100 comics over the course of 2 years.
One fateful evening, Stephen would spend a memorable few hours playing the intro section of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. He had more fun than expected, and lamented not being a let's play YouTuber to share his experience as it happened (more on that later). So instead, he got the idea to write a comic based on his experience (as well his quote-unquote witty commentary) and post that online. Come summer of 2017, SD Comics' A Breath of Fresh Air was born, spanning over 6 years and 800 comics.
Halfway through writing A Breath of Fresh Air, Stephen would come to want a change of pace. Something that wasn't a parody based off another story and something a bit less taxing to draw (and needed less references). He bounced a lot of different original story ideas over the years, and some managed to come together into a something wonderful, at least in his eyes. Starting in August 19th 2019, SD Comics' That Shield Kid is a fantasy comedy about a young boy wanting to become a hero in his own right after his childhood friend is revealed to be the reincarnation of the legendary hero. The boy forges bonds with bizarre individuals and faces even zanier adventures with a dumb grin on his face. This comic would only last 4 chapters before being indefinitely shelved for other projects. But Stephen isn't writing out the possibility of returning to this particular story in the future...
During the early days of the pandemic, Stephen would find himself as one of many being swept up by the popular streamer/content creator craze of vtubing. His newfound obsession led to him wanting to try it out himself. He got a streamer set up, drew a model, learned how to rig it, messed around with video making and editing, and mashed his actual name with his webcomic handle. Now he is Stephen D Comics, a part-time cartoon vtuber and webcomic artist, making content for YouTube since November 11th 2022. He originally streamed on the weekends, but after a year and a half he switched to making prerecorded let's play videos. He posted them daily for a few months, and currently he posts them every Friday through Monday.
And now we get to Stephen's latest endeavor. For the past decade, he has been particularly obsessed with isekai anime and actively encouraging the oversaturation of the market. It got to the point where he wanted to make his own isekai story. So for a good few years, Stephen attempted to write an isekai novel series, feverishly writing and rewriting when he could find the time. But as he was forced to face adulthood and take on other projects, making time to write a novel series proved to be too difficult. As a compromise, Stephen completely reworked his novel series into something more palatable for webcomics: and thus, SD Comics' A Familiar World was born. This particular project is very close to Stephen's heart and has been worked on feverishly for years.
We at SD Comics hope you enjoy his efforts!
